2013 edition of Compass European Junior Challenge has started today with under 16 players of 8 national teams. International Referee Stefano Sacchi has drawn lots for preliminary round robins, starting from player's ranking. Italian team was included, as seed n. 2, in B group together with Sweden, Ireland and Austria. In the other group, Spain, which is the most favourite team due to the presence of the rising star Pedro Martinez, has to face Great Britain, Russia and Luxembourg. A perfect start for both Italy and Spain, with a 6-0 result respectively with Austria and Russia. All the national teams is playing matches every day as follows: two girls single, two boys single, one girls double, one boy double. In case of ties a mixed double is played with a tie break at 10 points. Today's hot temperature did not help Irish teams, and Sweden won 4-3. After a clinic with Albinea wheelchair tennis players, second in the last Italian championships, a mixed double with wheelchair and young talented players ended the first day of the tournament. Wheelchair tennis players Bruno Carlucci, Andrea Rinaldini, Fabio Castagnetti and Paolo Tontodonati told the athletes about their life and sport experience and about the last tournaments they participate, such as Wheelchair Melbourne Open for Bruno Carlucci and Israel and Spain for Paolo Tontodonati. Tomorrow matches, starting from 9 a.m. will be Italy-Sweden, Ireland-Austria, Great Britain-Russia and Spain-Luxembourg. In the pictures, Spain, Italy and Great Britain National teams.
