Prague - June in Prague 2012
The Prague event was held at the beautiful CLTK Club on Stvanice Island in the heart of the city. THe first day consisted of cloudy skies and rain pushing the tennis indoors. Players competed in a round robin style doubles tournament. After the second day Great Britain had won the event with Russia, Czech Republic, and the US finishing respectively.
On Thursday at the tennis club, President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus, who is also the president of the CLTK Tennis Club, unveiled and dedicated a plaque to Jaroslav Drobny, Wimbledon Champion 1954.
At the official dinner on Friday night the US team presented the Czech IC with a digital picture frame to complement their historical collection of photos in the CLTK Club. Helena Sukova, four time ladies Wimbledon doubles Champion was very active in organizing the event and played as well. Jan Kodes, former Wimbledon Champion attended the dinner and was present throughout the weekend.
Saturday morning the Czech IC organized a bus trip to Krivoklet, a castle sixty kilometers outside Prague. This trip was fully attended by the US and GB ICs. Overall the weekend was very enjoyable. Many special thanks to Helena Sukova and to Jiri Medonos for serving as referee, event organizer, and tour guide.
