A team from the USIC, accompanied by a number of spouses and children, traveled to Dublin in early July to play a team from the IC of Ireland. The match was played at the famed FitzWilliam Lawn Tennis Club. The USIC enjoyed a day of practice and drinking followed by dinner at the gorgeous home of outgoing Irish IC President John O'Rourke and his wife, Liz. There was also a beautiful dinner at the FitzWilliam Club on Saturday night where gifts and stories were exchanged. In the team matches, the USIC were particularly gracious guests falling to a strong Irish team by the score of 9-3. Highlights for the visitors were an afternoon singles victory by Tom Bender and a doubles win by Mark Massey. John Donelan, David Fitzgerald, Robb Bunnen and Carl Kravitz all distinguished themselves in several highly competitive doubles matches. After the matches, many of the USIC traveled around the spectacular Irish countryside sightseeing. The overall trip was enjoyed by all with a combination of excellent tennis and extraordinary hospitality. The USIC looks forward to a return visit from the Irish IC so we can see our new friends from Ireland again soon.
