USIC Member Brian Campbell Named Captain of The 2024 State Department/USAID Tennis Team

Wednesday, April 17, 2024

After 25+ years of unparalleled captaincy by John Wilson (USAID), USIC Members Brian Campbell (Captain) and Mark Massey (Assistant Captain) have been selected to lead the 2024 State Department/USAID Tennis Team. Much like the USIC, the mission of the Departmental Tennis League (DTL) is to promote friendship, competition, and sportsmanship across the interagency through the great sport of tennis!

Brian is a key member of the State Department Tennis Team, anchoring the number one doubles team spot since 2011.  Campbell, a former top singles and doubles player at Truman State University, was twice named All-America and was inducted into the Truman State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.  Brian was voted into the International Tennis Club of the United States (USIC) in 2015 and is currently ranked 6th in the United States in Men’s (45) Doubles.  Brian's grandfather, Lucio Villegas, was a Chilean tennis champion and served as Chilean Consul General, with missions to Japan, Denmark, and the United States.

Founded in 1915, the DTL is the tennis league for government employees in Washington and one of the oldest tennis leagues in the United States.
