The Gene Scott Trophy is an annual event between the USIC and Bahamas IC. Hosted
by the USIC at the Quail Ridge Tennis Center in Boynton Beach, FL. The competition includes
Men's, Women's, and Mixed Doubles.
Before the competition started, tickets to the ATP Delray Beach Open quarterfinals on Friday
evening were arranged by USIC Women’s Captain Margaret Lumia. USIC members enjoyed
cocktails and hors d'oeuvres before watching Taylor Fritz win the night match.
After very competitive matches on Saturday, the USIC held a strong 8-3 lead over the Bahamas
IC.
On Saturday evening, a banquet was held at the Highland Beach Club for both teams to relax
together. Susan Kimball, of the Bahamas IC, was made an Honorary member of the USIC and
was presented with a USIC scarf. The USIC welcomes Kimball, who has played internationally
for the USTA in World competitions as well as participating in many matches between the USIC
and the Bahamas many times in the past.
Unfortunately, massive rains arrived in Florida on Sunday on the day of the Finals. However, all
was not lost, as Lumia graciously hosted the players and their guests for a brunch for the finale
at her home.
