USIC v. Canada 'Friendly' Match

The USIC played a dual match against Canada IC on February 16 at the Quail Ridge Tennis Center in Boyton Beach, FL. The format included Men's, Women's, and Mixed Doubles.  

In filling out the rosters, Canada “borrowed” several USIC men. 

After eight close matches, the US and Canada were tied at 4-4. 

The deciding mixed doubles match featured USIC members Chris Bensinger and Stacey Williams vs Gordon Thomson and Sheila Cunningham for the Canadian IC. After being down 7-4 in an eight-game pro set, USIC came back and won the match in a tiebreak to give the the overall win, 5-4. It doesn't get closer than that. 

The courts were perfect and weather was beautiful.   USIC Women’s Captain Margaret Lumia organized the event which included lunch, cocktails and tickets to the ATP Delray Beach Open quarterfinals.   

USIC participants were: Chris Bensinger, Bob Beverley, Fabian Carchi, David Dickenson, Greg Fess, Jeff Snow, Kay Beverley, Meg Brossy, Irene Davis, Frances Dickenson, Judi Fess, Mariana Hollman, Margaret Lumia, Paula Myslivecek, Michaela Wey, and Stacey Williams. 

Canadian IC participants were: Jane Bedard, Sheila Cunningham, Dale Kazicz, Kathy Mueller, Kasia Poplawska, and Gordon Thomson.
